1 John 2- Our Brother

Image
( 1 John 2:3-11 ) The apostle now presents to us some tests of our Christian profession. It is one thing to say, “I am a Christian,” but it is another to possess eternal life. It is one thing to say, “I am a child of God,” and quite another to know the marvelous blessing of regeneration. Do we say we are Christians? Do we claim to be children of God? Then we must prove it by our lives. “We do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments” ( 1 John 2:3 ). He is not speaking from a legal standpoint. In the Old Testament the commandments of God were presented to us with a view of obtaining life. The law said of the man who kept His commandments, “Which, if a man do, he shall live in them” ( Leviticus 18:5 ). But here, under grace, it is the opposite. The man who lives by faith will do His commandments. The one who says he lives for God and yet is completely indifferent to the will of God, has never been born of God. He is still in “the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquit

Bible Study on 1 John 2- Jesus Christ Our Advocate Before God

Episode Title:  1 John 2:  Our Advocate We have an Advocate! John 2:1-  These two verses constitute the second part of the message we were studying in Chapter One. Remember in verse 5 of 1 John 1 we read, “This is the message,” and then in the rest of that chapter, including the first two verses of the second chapter, we have the message in its entirety. This is the message that John and the other apostles were commissioned by Christ to carry throughout the world. It is the message of man’s utterly lost condition in darkness, and of the atoning value of the precious blood of Christ. This message tells us the importance of facing our sins in the presence of God, and finding forgiveness. Now John goes on to address the failures of believers, those who have been cleansed judicially from all sin. What about our failures?-for you know we do fail, all of us, much as we may regret the sad fact. There are many of us that are probably praying that God will make us good, and holy, and that ou

Study of 1 John: Chapter One The Light In The Darkness

Image
Below is my show notes on the podcast about 1 John 1 Episode Title:   The Light In the Darkness Key Points: Verses 1-4:  Our Lord is definite and not a thing that has been made up.  Our Lord is eternal.  Past, Present, and Future.  - A strong declaration of the real life experience with the Savior.  We should openly share our experiences with the Savior. Verse 5:  A. God is light.   This means that God is pure. From a moral standpoint light stands for purity. God is knowledge and truth. To speak of light in a philosophical sense you are speaking of knowledge and truth.                   a. A man may say, "I have been enlightened."                   b. Let's put some light on the subject.                   c. The time of history when men lived in ignorance and superstition were   known as the dark ages.   Light is a revealer. Jesus said, For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth

What Does God Say About Polygamy, Homosexual Marriage, and Transgenderism?

Image
When people look at the Bible and see cases of polygamy (having multiple wives), they are not distinguishing between what God commands of us and the history of how we have ultimately treated God.  If you look at it in that perspective in an honest light, man has never been faithful to a faithful God.   God is the one who designed marriage.  He is the one who invented marriage.  Marriage is not a man made institution.  It was the farthest thing from man’s mind, and from the current debauchery of society today, we can see that man’s nature is not towards marriage.  Look at how many broken marriages there are and even couples living with each other outside of the sacred bond of marriage.  God in fact gave the first woman to the first man.  The woman was a gift from God, hence in our marriage relationships, we should always look at our partner as a gift from God Himself.  When Moses tells us about this, he makes a comment in Genesis 2:24 stating,  24 Therefore A MAN shall leave his fath

Am I Praying The Right Way

Matthew 6 and John 17 6 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. 5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward y
