Called to Serve God

Mark 10:45 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Psalm 100:2(a) Serve the Lord with gladness We seem to live in a world today that holds to the premise of “look out for number one.”  Due to the “expectations” set up by the world today, many of us strive for acceptance and strive for what we perceive as success.  Due to that strive, the world has convinced many of us that in order to succeed, you need to keep your thoughts to yourself and that we should keep our thoughts solely focused on us.  Of course, as are most things, is contrary to what Scripture commands us to do.  Instead, Scripture tells us that as believers, we are called to serve.  God tells us in Scripture that we are called to serve in many ways, but I want to focus on three things we are called to focus on.  We called to serve God, serve family, and serve others. Called to Love

1 Peter 4:7-10 When I was a young man in my twenties I remember a time I called my mother.  I just had to call mom because, man, I was excited.  I believed at that time I had just met the woman of my dreams!   When I told mom she said, “Why don’t you send her some flowers and invite her over to your apartment for a home cooked meal? We live in a very troubling world.  Each day we are bombarded by sounds, stories, and pictures of horrifying events.  However, the ugliest thing in our world seems to be how we as God’s creation treat and talk to each other.  As I look at the world events, I realize how many tragedies could be spared if we as His children would just do what the Lord has said.   Do you enjoy social media?  Are you like the majority of American’s in today’s world that frequent social media apps to see what your neighbor is up to or what is going on in the world?  How do you treat it?  Do you use it as a tool to spread the gospel, to show love, and to edify others?  Do you use it as a tool of criticism, hatred, and bitterness?  Speaking personally, I would love to say that I have always used it in love, but the reality is, I’ve used it more like the latter, full of criticism and bitter
