Called To Rest
Matthew 28:11-30
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
We live in a world that is go, go, go. It seems like when you talk to someone they are always telling you that there are not enough hours in the day to accomplish what they would like. It seems that even technology's focus nowadays is to help us make better use of our time.
In today’s busy and stressful world though, we can see the results. We have people who are in a constant state of anxiety, stress, and depression. It seems that everyone is tired anymore and even physical health is being affected because of our constantly moving lifestyle.
Did God mean for it to be this way? Absolutely not!
As mentioned in our previous devotion, a lot of God’s commandments were not given to us to be hindrances but are to be a guide for us to have an abundant life.
Exodus 20:8-11 says, 8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
In the example set by God, God is telling us that we need to take at least one day a week to rest. On that day, we should rest. Not only our physical bodies, but our spiritual as well. We need to rest in Him and turn our burdens over to Him.
