Called To Transform

 Romans 12:1-2

12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I was a child of the 80’s.  In a way, I guess some can say that I really still am.  I still collect comics and I still love pop culture from when I was a kid.  The cool thing that has happened over the past 10 years is those things I loved are coming back!  Comic book craze is going strong, shows like Thundercats, GI Joe, and the one I want to talk about today, Transformers, have become pop culture phenomenons.

Yes, you read the title of today’s devotional right.  We are called to transform.  Paul tells us in the book of Romans that we should never be conformed to the ways of this world.  We should never say, hey even though that goes against the word of God, that looks fun and I think it’s innocent enough so I’m going to do it.  That’s conforming to the world.  Christians are supposed to be different from what we see in the world today.

God’s Word states that we should be transformed.  Just like the transformers we should change from one thing to another.  We should change from a life of sin to a life of righteousness and obedience to Jesus Christ.

How do we transform?  We transform by the renewing of our minds.

We renew our minds by reading and studying the Word of God.  Each and every day we should be disciplining ourselves to read a portion of God’s Word and study a little bit of it each day.  If this is not a current practice, please let me encourage you to start.  Start slow if you need to.  Maybe only reading a small portion until you get the habit each and every day as you begin to grow.  For about 4 months now, I have been on an intermittent fasting diet.  What I have discovered during these 4 months is how much time we actually do have to accomplish things that normally we say that we do not.  My life stays pretty busy but I noticed when I take time away from the time wasters in life that you can really put it forward to the reading and studying of God’s Word.

Try with social media.  You don’t have to cut it out completely from your life but be a steward of your time with it.  I’m usually only on maybe twice a day, maybe three times if I’m alerted for some reason.  During those times, I’m not very long either.  My morning session is usually just to post this devotion and then to go over prayer requests.  The evening is just to go over any friend interaction I may have received during the day.  When I developed this practice, I was amazed at how much more time I had freed up during my day.  What I am saying, is to look at your schedule and prioritize studying God’s Word.  It will change your life.

Another way we can renew our mind and be transformed is letting our mind help us to be obedient to God.  Remember 2 Corinthians 10:5

5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

We are renewed in our mind and transformed when we stop and think, is what I’m thinking about or is what I’m doing, glorifying God.  When we do that we transform ourselves into the image of Christ.

Are you going to be a transformer today?  God will transform your life if you just trust in Him and His Word.
