Thankful For The Holy Spirit
John 14:15-18
15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
John 14:25-26
25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
Besides salvation, I think that we as Christian’s forget to thank God for one of the greatest gifts ever...Himself. While this is directly tied to salvation (Act 2:38), we must never forget to thank God for His presence through the Holy Spirit. The world was blessed with the very presence of God since the very beginning but we as humans have a tendency to forget that. He walked with Adam in the garden, He made Himself known through the prophets, He resided upon the mercy seat in the Holy of Holies, He came to Earth through a virgin maid, walked amongst us, faced the same temptations we face, and gave Himself as a sacrifice for our sins so we may be reconciled to God. The apostles were blessed to have the very presence of God walking alongside them and when Jesus told them of His soon death, this troubled their heart. They were afraid they would be left alone. However, Jesus reminds them that He will not leave them orphaned. He stated that the Holy Spirit would come to be a Helper, the Spirit of Truth, and in verse 18 reminds them that the Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity alongside Him and the Father by stating, “I will come to you.”
Think about this. Jesus uses the term Helper for a reason. We as believers are never left alone. God has given us an awesome gift in the peace and assurance we receive through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit teaches us all things. Without the Holy Spirit, we would not be able to rightly divide the Word of Truth and understand the precious promises in the Bible.
We would not even be able to fully experience the love of God unless it was for the Holy Spirit! Many don’t feel loved because they don’t listen to the Holy Spirit that is shouting within their innermost being that they are loved.
Romans 5:5 says,
5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
As we thank God for what He has given us, what better to thank for than the gift of Himself! His declaration of love to us!
God works so much through the Holy Spirit inside of us. It truly is a gift that keeps on giving. One of the greatest things we have that is a testimony of the Holy Spirit is that He secures our salvation! Once we bend the knee to our Lord Jesus Christ and are saved, we are always saved. We cannot lose our salvation! We are sealed by God Himself!
Ephesians 4:30 says,
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
For those that teach that one can lose their salvation, it truly does grieve the Holy Spirit because you are insulting the very power of God! God places His seal upon us, the Holy Spirit, and holds onto us as His children forever!
What an awesome, giving God we have! Let us thank Him this day for His very presence in us through the Holy Spirit!
