Supposed Myths of Christianity: Jesus was just a good teacher....

John 14:6

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Jesus claimed to be God and He is God (John 10:30, John 1:1). He forgives people’s sins (Matthew 9:1-8), humanity would be accountable to him and he was the way, truth and life.  He was much more than just a teacher.  He was certainly not a revolutionary, in fact, large numbers of people stopped following him when he did not preach an overthrow of the Roman occupation.  Jesus had many followers abandon Him even as He got closer and closer to His crucifixion (John 6:60-70).

Jesus has never been accused of being a liar nor did his followers lie about him since the gospels were not written in a mythic style.  The Pharisees and Sadducees accused Him of blasphemy but not once, not even during trial, called Him a liar.  He did not have a messiah complex, which involves incredible egotism, inability to love and no compassion for others, none of which remotely resembles Jesus.  In fact, it was the opposite.  When Christ healed in Matthew 9:30, it’s stated that he instructed the men not to say anything about Him being the one that healed them!  In fact, we get many of those accounts across the gospels.

Maybe what really bothers some is Jesus’ claim as the only way to God.  The religion of secular culture is “equality” and Jesus’ message sounds scandalous.  He preached equality amongst people but for himself He made it clear He is the Savior of the world.  Jesus stated that there is equality among men, but only in the fact that we are all sinners in need of a Savior.  That is how we are ultimately equal.  Jesus taught us not to show favoritism and Jesus did not show any.  So then, why the hate?  Why does His name bring up so much trouble at times?

It boils down to accountability.  When we are truthful with ourselves, the thought of being held accountable for our actions is something we do not want.  We want to do things our way.  That’s how it’s always been since day one.  A belief in Jesus is not something that can be dismissed with rationality.  It’s irrational to not believe in Jesus Christ.  His existence is well founded and documented in history.  It’s documented by believers and non-believers alike.  So why do some men, like Sigmund Freud and others try to dismiss Christ as a “fairy tale.”  The reason why is because if they can dismiss the existence of Christ to a fairy tale, then there is no reason for them to be accountable for the teachings of Christ.  They can live their lives in the way that they feel free with a free conscience.  God still honors free will, but there's consequences.   To the unbeliever, this is what they really fear most.

The fact of the matter is, Jesus was much more than a good teacher….

Jesus IS God.
