Our Minds Part Two

  Romans 8:6

6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Depression rates in today’s world is at an all time high.  People try to explain that depression is high due to a number of factors.   Family, careers, and even biology have been explained as reasons for depression.

Does the Bible speak about this?   I believe that Romans 8:6 is just one verse of many that actually gives us a glimpse of the topic.

This verse in Romans warns us that to be carnally minded brings death.   When our minds run on nothing but the temporal things of the world like wealth, prestige, relationships, etc.  we find ourselves getting depressed because in the long run, those things disappear like the wind and even when obtained, they still make one feel empty.

Many of us get ourselves down time and time again running the “rat race”, but when we look back, we’ve gone nowhere.

So, how are we to feel fulfilled?  How are we to obtain peace in our life?

We do this by having the mind of Christ.   What was Jesus focused on while He was here on Earth?   He fed the hungry, helped the poor, healed the sick, comforted the hurting, and above all, He obeyed the Father.

Christ’s thoughts were not on Himself, but His thoughts were on the will of His Father and to mankind.

When we start prioritizing others, we find peace.  We stop worrying about our own because we have the peace that God is with us and He’s taking care of everything we need.   When we start having a mind that concentrates on the things of God, we experience a true fulfilling peace in our lives.
