When Bad Things Happen

 Psalm 18:1

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer.

Bad things happen.  It’s inevitable.  When they do, as with all of life’s decisions and happenings, we face the consequences.  At a number of times, we takes vows never to let that thing happen again.  Never to get hurt again, never to let a person take advantage, never to allow events to occur.  Yet, the stark reality is, we don’t have the power to keep free from the dangers and circumstances of life.

However, when these things occur such as sudden tragedy or personal loss, oftentimes opens our heart and minds to the need for help, comfort, and guidance.  It is at this very point that our kind and loving heavenly Father can open touch our hearts.  It’s at this point that He can comfort us in our great time of need.  We must simply submit ourselves unto God again, and as the psalmist did, come to the realization that the Lord is our fortress and deliverer.

Not only will He deliver us from this time, but He begins to build a fortress around us.  Not one that shuts people out, but one that is able to withstand the trials, the heartaches, and the tragedies that will come to us in the future.

David understood that in all of his great trials in his youth, God was preparing him to be a great king.

In all the tragedy that Joseph experienced, God was preparing him to save the nation of Israel, and quite literally at that time, modern civilization.

When bad things happen, turn to Him.
